The word “KATSU” carries two powerful meanings in Japanese:

“活 – Live Fully”

It represents the energy to move, grow, and live with purpose.

Grow your confidence and potential in sports and life

 “勝 – Win”

It embodies the mindset to overcome challenges and keep improving.

Win against challenges in sports, school, or work

Win against laziness and inner weakness

Win against yesterday’s you by continuous growth

A place where anyone—kids or adults—can grow stronger, healthier, and more confident.
That’s the heart of KATSU Performance.

"Add vitality to your everyday life."

Koji Ishii

Sports Performance Specialist

I began my career in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, where I trained in physical conditioning, bayonet techniques, and strict discipline. This experience taught me the core principles of consistency, resilience, and self-management—values that shape my coaching philosophy today.

After moving to the U.S., I earned an Associate’s Degree in Exercise Science from Mesa Community College and later completed my Sports Performance Bachelor’s Degree at Arizona State University.
Throughout my studies, I focused heavily on preventive science, safe training methods, and long-term habit building.

At a university fitness center, I trained a wide range of clients—from young adults to seniors—helping them improve posture, flexibility, mobility, and overall daily performance through safe and sustainable programming.

I also coached youth athletes at Redline Athletics in Scottsdale, providing science-based performance training tailored to age and skill level. My sessions emphasize fundamental movement, reaction speed, agility, and mental focus, giving young athletes the tools to grow confidently and safely.

In Japan, I coached middle and high school basketball teams and later played as an adult athlete, gaining experience in both Japanese and American tryout environments. My coaching blends real competitive experience with evidence-based training.

Alongside athletic coaching, I am an active Japanese language instructor, with over 1,800 online lessons taught. Across both fitness and education, my strength is the ability to create clear, structured programs that fit each person’s age, goals, and learning style—supporting not only physical development but also confidence, discipline, and personal growth.
